AVID performance objectives: fostering student success
Discover the core objectives driving AVID strategies in my classroom, aimed at empowering students for college and career readiness. Learn how these goals translate into tangible growth and achievement for every learner.

Empowering students for future success
With over 20 years in education and more than 13 years as an AVID Elective teacher, I have learned that every student can succeed when they are challenged, supported, and believed in. I use AVID strategies every day to help students strengthen their thinking, stay organized, and develop the college, career, and life skills they need to be successful.
My goal is to create a classroom where students feel comfortable asking questions, working together, thinking critically, and taking ownership of their learning. I want my students to know that it's okay not to have all the answers—we're here to learn, grow, and keep trying until we get it.
More than anything, I strive to build a classroom community where students feel seen, valued, and capable. When students believe in themselves, take pride in their work, and are willing to take academic risks, they begin to see that success isn't just about getting the right answer—it's about growing every day. That's the kind of classroom I work to create.

AVID certified educator performance objectives
Upon completion of this program, educators will be prepared to design and facilitate a model AVID classroom that actualizes the AVID framework, which can result in improved college and career readiness for all the educator's students. Specifically, participants will:
- Demonstrate routine application of the AVID Foundations of Instruction (FOI) to create a daily classroom experience that results in the student outcomes outlined in the AVID College and Career Readiness Framework.
- Engage in continuous professional reflection on identified focus areas from the AVID Foundations of Instruction to manifest the AVID College and Career Readiness Framework.
- Build relational capacity within a professional network that develops collective educator agency and supports one another's successes.

Tangible growth and engagement
The positive impact of these AVID goals shows up in the way students grow every day. As they build stronger academic skills, they also build confidence in themselves and start taking ownership of their learning. While we're working together in class, students begin to see that what they're learning really matters. They take more pride in their work, participate more, and aren't as afraid to ask questions or take academic risks.
When we consistently use AVID strategies, students become stronger thinkers, better teammates, more organized, and more prepared to solve problems—even when the work gets tough. In our classroom, everyone is expected to work hard, support one another, and keep growing. We don't have to get it right the first time—we just keep trying until we do. By the end of the year, my goal is for every student to walk out knowing they are capable, confident, and ready for whatever comes next.
"Watching students blossom into confident, independent learners who take ownership of their education is the most rewarding aspect of implementing AVID strategies."
